Donated Books in Spanish are sent to the Peace Corps in the Dominican Republic
We are soliciting new or used books in Spanish, from individuals, organizations, libraries, publishers, or any source.
Childrens books, text books, novels, dictionaries, encyclopedias, atlas, English as a second language, or whatever is available are sought.
Over 1,200 have been shipped and are now in libraries and classrooms.
These books are used by Peace Corps volunteers in the Dominican Republic to teach in the communities of their assignments.
The books are used to stock libraries in those communities.
Not only is there a shortage of books in Spanish available in the Dominican Republic, there is also a shortage of donated books in Spanish available from book donation programs.
We have already shipped in M-bags 1,000 pounds of books found in Friends of the Library sales and are hoping to ship more. Also, Casa de Amigos in Midland, Texas, and Cervantes Library in NYC and Aspectos Culturales in Santa Fe, NM, have donated books to us.
If you don't have books in Spanish but would like to help pay for shipping, these books cost a little less than $1 per pound to ship in M-bags. Also, for about $5,000 shipping, Brother's Brother Foundation can ship a sea container (30,000#) to the Dominican Republic. (*see info below)
